Alimony Reforms Fail in Florida

Many of you have been wondering if alimony reform was really going to happen this year. The popular alimony reform bill did not make it to the Senate, because the Florida House ended their session early over a dispute over the budget with Medicaid expansion. Many of this legislative sessions bills did make the cut this year because of this dispute; including, the alimony reform bill which would effectively eliminate permanent alimony and make 50/50 timesharing the presumption for Florida families. It is predicted that this issue will come up again however, for next years legislative session. Until then, the current alimony rules and statutes will apply for Floridians.
